Colin Brown, Marine Surveyor

I am reliable and hardworking, I have more than fifteen years of varied marine industry experience including commercial diving, aquaculture management, yacht delivery and training, repairing and installing systems on a variety of vessels from iron Dutch barges to modern production yachts. I have always been fascinated by boats and have a great enthusiasm for traditional yachts and maritime history. We own a 1965 Nicholson 32 and a Drascombe lugger.

Employment History

 

Sept 2009-present: Established CB Marine Services. Marine surveyor, instructor and consultant offering a range of tailored solutions to boat users.

May-Sept. 2009 Sailing. Cruising from Hamble to Outer Hebrides and studying towards Diploma in Marine Surveying. (Passed with Merit) See Yachting Monthly January 2010.

Sept 2008-May 2009. Deacons Boatyard. Boatyard operative, temporary contract. Craneage and yacht movement, painting and service.

2008-present. Freelance sailing instructor. Delivering RYA practical and shore based courses. 

2005-2008. A C Marine. Core sub-contractor to specialist Dutch barge service business. Work included building traditional rigging, welding and fabrication, and plumbing. Assisted in surveys of barges and other steel vessels. 

2004-2005. Self employed delivery and charter skipper. Included trans-Atlantic and Mediterranean deliveries. 

2000-2003. West Coast Shellfish Ltd. Farm manager and fish trader. Managed scallop farm with four staff and coordinated fish trading between local suppliers and the London wholesale fish markets. 

1996-2000. Fish Dive Ltd. Team Leader. Lead a team of divers providing diving services to the aquaculture industry. Work included seabed, structure, and fish condition surveys.

1994-1996. Scallop Kings Plc and Crinan Boats Ltd. Diver and scallop farm operative. Diver and slip hand in traditional boatyard serving commercial and leisure vessels and Scotland's first scallop ranch.
